Meet the Team: Jacob Childerson, Director of Strategic Partnerships

Jacob, tell us about your role at Label Insight

I’m the Director of Strategic Partnerships, and my main focus is making the process of onboarding products easier for brand owners at CPG brands. I work closely with our partners in the ecosystem - such as image service providers and media production agencies - to facilitate faster and easier compliance with retailer initiatives. A smooth onboarding process ensures that retailers have the most up to date product information and attribution at their fingertips, while simultaneously easing the burden on brand owners  because they can take a simple button-click  approach to keeping their data current and accurate.

How long have you been at the company and what has your career path looked like?

I’ve been with Label Insight for just over three years, I was employee number 12, and today we’re more than 100 strong. When I joined Label Insight I was responsible for our data collection efforts, working closely with contract employees all across the country to capture product images for our retail customers. That role evolved to taking on more and more responsibility for our data generation efforts, and today I’m responsible for our onboarding team, overseeing the front door of our database working to help brands and retailers power transparency. My career path has been varied, but incredibly rewarding.

You recently earned the GS1 Standard Professional Certification. What does this mean and why is it important?

In our work, standards are so critical, and our ability to play in this space is highly dependent upon our ability to adhere to accepted standards for the industry. Our goal is to ensure that as we work to help brands and retailers provide transparency to consumers that we are able to provide that within existing structures and ensure that they are meeting those accepted industry standards.

What’s a typical day like for you?

Unpredictable. I feel fortunate to be able honestly say that I’ve never not wanted to come into work. Each day brings a new challenge and a new opportunity.

What’s your favorite part of your job at Label Insight?

Collaboration. We have a great team here, with experiences that are all over the map. Everyone brings something different to the table and in that we’re able to quickly and uniquely solve new problems.

Why is what we’re doing at Label Insight important? Why does it matter?

Last December my 15 month old son was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. With this diagnosis came a whole host of new responsibilities for me. Due to the nature of my role, I’ve always paid attention to food labels, but now it’s incredibly important that I understand what’s in the food we prepare and how we may need to adjust insulin doses to accommodate for that. What we do here at Label Insight is making a difference and empowering consumers to make better decisions that meet their needs.
