According to a survey by Mintel, just one in ten Americans reports having bought fresh produce, meat, poultry, and fish through e-commerce with a majority of respondents pointing to a lack of trust in freshness, food safety concerns, and an inability to see, touch, and sample the product. Historically, the lack of label information and data on these products has been a challenge for retailers. By leveraging the USDA’s Nutritional Database for Standard Reference (SR), we are excited to announce that Label Insight is now able to deliver nutrient and serving size information for any product with a standard Price Look-Up or PLU code. This new offering also enables retailers to expand attribution across these products, highlighting key standard and custom attributes such as “Organic”, “In-Season”, and “Dietitian’s Pick”.
Retailers are now able to easily populate fresh produce information into their e-commerce product detail pages, include attributes across these products in their advanced online filtering and navigation, power robust free-text search, and expand in-store shelf tag programs. This additional layer of transparency empowers consumers to make the best and most knowledgeable grocery purchase decisions while retailers have the opportunity to deepen trust and build long-term loyalty with their shoppers, ultimately resulting in increased sales and repeat purchasing. How does it work?
Label Insight ingests and analyzes data on all products with a standard PLU code and populates nutrient and serving information from the USDA’s Nutritional Database. We then apply our unique expertise and proprietary rule system to analyze fresh products against Label Insight’s continuously growing suite of millions of product attributes including 24,000 attributes per product. With the delivered data, retailers are able to ingest and store this data to fuel various functionalities.
